Solar Energy

As the sun rises, the rays hit the Solar Roadway (SR) panels on roads, parking lots, sidewalks driveways, playgrounds, airports… The clean renewable energy is sent to nearby homes and businesses. The more area is covered, the more our collective dependence on fossil fuels can be reduced.

Emergency Services

Hospital helipads covered with Solar Roadways panels will stay snow/ice free. The LEDs will make signage easily visible to helicopters. Firestation driveways (and the road in front of the station if desired), can be illuminated with LED lights to alert people that the firetruck has been dispatched. The road can warn drivers to pull over and let the truck safely pass.

EV Charging

Parking lots with SR panels may choose to use some of the energy to allow their customers to charge EVs with power from clean sunshine. Parking lot spaces and markings will be easily customized to meet the needs of each business. Spaces for EVs could be marked, handicapped spaces could be created on the fly, etc.

Airport

Airports may use SR panels on their huge tarmacs to generate plentiful clean energy. The panels can be employed for the taxi way and potentially for the runway itself. LED lights would provide important signage to pilots regarding weather conditions, where to land, which gate to taxi to, and even allow communication with pilots in emergency situations such as lost contact with the control tower.

Residential Benefits

Our suburban areas will reap many benefits from SR installations. Sidewalks and bike paths will be lit for safety. Potholes will be no more. Power lines will no longer block views as they will be safely inside the Cable Corridors –protected from falling trees during a storm. This means that residents will no longer be vulnerable to frequent power outages. Driveways with SR panels will provide power to homes and apartment buildings.

Schools
Playgrounds

Schools can install SR panels in parking lots and walkways, where they will supply renewable energy to the school. Another exciting option is the use of the panels on playgrounds. They will be snow and ice free; more safety for children and more days to play outside. Instead of limited access to sports and games, the same footprint can offer a myriad of options at the touch of a button! Teachers can create educational games for children, so they can exercise and learn at the same time.

Water Management

SR Cable Corridors contain a section for water to be collected from the Solar Road. Water can be treated on site or stored in tanks under the ground. From here it can be moved to where it is needed, such as watering this tree farm. In this way, polluted stormwater can be captured before it contaminates water ways.

Other Renewables

Solar Roadways can become the power grid, ushering in the energy from other renewables such as: rooftop solar, wind mills, large solar arrays, etc. Since roads are so ubiquitous, it will make it easy for all kinds of renewable projects to transfer power to the grid.

Traffic Hazards

SR road panels will have sensors which will detect will detect large objects on the road, such as this giant pumpkin! The LED lights can then warn drivers to “slow down”. If the object is stationary or if there is an accident, the road lights can also create a detour. When the danger is gone, the LEDs will go back to their default position.

Homeowners

In addition to driveways, homeowners can use SR panels on: patios, walkways, courtyards, pool surrounds, garden paths, and sport courts. The clean energy created will supply power to the home. EVs can be charged as well. Shoveling and plowing snow will no longer be needed. Paneled areas can become an instant dance floor, and be quickly programmed for holiday decorating, and entertaining with millions of color options!

Off The Grid

SR panels can help those who want to enjoy the independence of having their own renewable energy source. Sufficient panels can be employed to meet the home\'s energy needs or combined with rooftop solar panels, wind turbines, etc. In order to have power available at all times, most any type of energy storage can be used. There are a variety of options from batteries to flywheels. The homeowner would no longer have electricity bills or be affected by power outages.

Wildlife Management

Both humans and animals will be safer with sensors in SR panels which can detect a large animal and warn drivers to "Slow Down" in time to prevent an accident. This is especially useful in conditions where visibility is limited or on curving roads when a driver might come upon wildlife abruptly.

Heating Elements

Solar Roadway panels contain heating elements which prevent snow and ice accumulation. Humans don’t need to turn them on. When it gets cold enough, the microprocessor activates the heating element and monitors the temperature. This feature can prevent traffic road accidents and help keep pedestrians from slipping on SR sidewalks and parking lots. Plowing and shoveling are no longer needed.
